Master's Degree in Materials Science and Engineering - Materials for Renewable Energy Track (MatER)

OBJECTIVES

Presentation

“The aim of the “MatER” course is to provide “materials” skills to address the issue of “renewable energies” for energy generation and transport. Materials-environment interactions are at the heart of this Materials Science and Engineering Masters programme. The mechanical and environmental resistance of materials are studied in order to (1) select the most suitable materials, (2) improve performance and efficiency and (3) ensure an appropriate life cycle for energy generation and transport systems based on renewable resources in a context of global climate change.
Subjects covered: Materials for non-thermal energy sources (wind power, photovoltaics, marine energy, hydroelectricity), thermal energy (biomass and waste recovery, ultra-supercritical turbines, solar thermal energy, geothermics and ocean thermal energy conversion), electrochemical energy (electrolysers and fuel cells), energy storage (hydrogen, batteries, phase transformation materials and thermal, thermochemical and hydraulic storage) and the link between renewable energy and buildings.
An interdisciplinary team made up of chemists, physicists, civil engineers, geographers, etc. will use their know-how to ensure the development of specific and cross-disciplinary skills. Some courses will be taught in English, and in-company and laboratory projects will complement the learning programme to improve the employability of our graduates.
Our graduates will be able to work immediately in the renewable energy and renewable transport sectors, as well as in cutting-edge research (new materials developed by additive manufacturing, recycled materials, bio-sourced materials and materials protection).”
In addition to this course, a master’s programme in engineering is available: https://www.univ-larochelle.fr/formation/nos-formations/cursus-master-ingenierie-cmi
